God is on the Move

God is on the Move in the Capitol of Nevada

It’s hard to believe that we are already one month into the 83rd Session of the Nevada Legislature. While the legislators and staff have been busy in committee meetings, debating issues, and drafting legislation, God has been equally busy behind the scenes.

Over the past four weeks, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many staff members and elected officials working in the building. Through these meetings, God has provided numerous opportunities to pray with and for our friends. Of course, life does not stop while the legislature is in session. With hundreds of people working in the building, there are many issues in the lives of our friends we can pray for—salvation, health, relationships, wisdom, stress, loneliness, and more. Please join me in intercessory prayer for them.

Update on Bible Distribution

It has been over a year since we partnered with Paul Stege Ministries and Calvary Chapel Pahrump Valley to provide personalized Bibles for our elected state officials. We began delivering them after the last session, and Lord willing, we will complete distribution within the next couple of weeks.

Bible Study and Prayer Time

I want to share two items for praise. First, we received permission to use one of the committee rooms to host a Bible study for our legislators every Monday during lunchtime. We had our first study on John 1:1-3 this week. I am thankful for the legislators who made the time to attend, and I’m praying that God will bring even more to the studies to come. We had good fellowship and meaningful discussions as we explored the deity of Jesus, His eternality, and His role in creation.

The second thing I’d like to share is how God has used the obedience of a couple of faithful women to bring glory to His name in this place. Before the legislative session began, God laid it on the hearts of two legislative assistants, Maria and Karen, to start each day with prayer together. They invited a couple of friends to join them, who in turn invited more friends, and before they knew it, they had outgrown the office space they were using. When I met Karen on the first day of the session, she told me about their prayer meetings and graciously invited me to join them. So, I did. As we meet for a short devotion and prayer at 8:15 every morning, the Lord continues to multiply the size of the group, with new people coming every day. Because of the growth, we now meet in a larger committee room. We pray that God will fill that space too.

God is using our time together each day to bless the lives of those who attend and the lives of those who may not even be aware we are praying for them. People who were otherwise “just colleagues” are now connected more sincerely, lifting each other up in prayer, encouraging one another, and sharing each other’s burdens.

Over the weeks, these are some of the comments I have heard from those attending: “I have been praying for something like this,” “I never knew there were so many believers in this building,” “I used to just pray at my desk alone,” and “It’s such a blessing to begin each day in prayer with others.”

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Let’s praise God for the work that He is doing and continue to pray that the name of Jesus will be glorified in places of government and beyond.

To God be the Glory.

I appreciate your prayers & support. May God bless you.
